Fighting Federal Writs of Habeas Corpus

Habeas corpus is a Latin phrase that roughly translates to "bring a body before the court." A writ, in general, is an order from a higher court to a lower court, government agency, or government official. A writ of habeas corpus is, therefore, an order from the court to the government official who is acting on behalf of the state to incarcerate the defendant.

Independent Reviews of Witness Misidentification in Criminal Trials:

“A fascinating exploration of the idea that single-witness identification can act as a sort of one person jury, leading directly to extraordinary damage to both the misidentified individual and, ultimately, the legal system itself. Well written, well researched.”

Highly recommend. Interesting, concise, and supported with lots of data and citations. Spolin is clearly an expert in this field.

“This is a helpful and informative book about incorrect witness identifications. As a librarian with a masters in library and information science, I can say that the footnotes throughout the book help the reader know exactly what source supports each statement. The book is clearly not just someone's opinion but, rather, seems like a meticulous marshaling of arguments and evidence to support the main points. Plus, it's an enjoyable read. I have recommended it to my bookclub.”
